FASHION FRIDAY: SPRING CLEANING, CLOSET EDITION
Melanie Charlton, founder of Clos-ette, is considered the “closet organizer to the stars…the absolute guru in designing and building custom closets and dressing rooms…” She has grown a successful business not only creating spaces for clients, but offering tips and products for organizing your own closet at home, no matter the size.
Organizing a closet can seem daunting for anyone who isn’t a natural Type-A but have no fear! Melanie’s three-step process will have your closet Pinterest-worthy in no time!
Step 1: Edit. Like the old saying goes; out with the old, in with the new! Getting rid of clothes you don’t wear is harder than it sounds, so inviting a friend to help is a good way to keep you in check 🙂
Step 2: Invest in uniform hangers. This is a step many people make the mistake of skipping but it’s crucial. Slim hangers make the most of whatever space you have AND allow you to focus on the clothes that’s hanging in front of you. Bonus tip: a clear rod creates the illusion of a larger space!
Step 3: Organize like with like (pants with pants, tops with tops) then color-code. This organization method allows you to treat your closet like a store and easily “shop” for your outfits.
Sweaters should be folded and stacked no more than a foot high.
Keep jewelry safe, but accessible. You don’t want to forget the pieces you have!
And don’t forget about the man in your life! These organizing tips can be extended to his closet as well.
